The Beam at Top of the Rock
The new interactive experience called “The Beam” at Rockefeller Center’s Top of the Rock is open to the public. The Beam recreates the famous 1932 photo “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper,” depicting 11 ironworkers sitting on a steel beam eating lunch high above Manhattan while 30 Rockefeller Plaza was under construction. Visitors sit strapped onto a steel beam replica with a seatbelt on the 69th floor, lifted 12 ft. above the Observation Deck platform and rotated 180-degrees offering spectacular views of New York City’s skyline.
